Blue Suede News #41 (Winter
'97/'98) has 68 pages with a slick cover. It features interviews with Big
Sandy and Carl Sonny Leyland. Big Sandy & His Fly-Rite
Boys are a great Western Swing, Honky Tonk and Rockabilly band and Big
Sandy talks about his musical upbringing, influences, bands, records, tours
and a whole lot more and piano man extraordinaire Carl Sonny Leyland
(& part-time Fly-Rite Boy) shares his stories about his youth in England,
living and playing in New Orleans and much more. Then there is a story about
The Standells, a Sixties band, and focuses on Dick Dodd, who
later became Jackie DeShannon's drummer. Also included is an article
about Elvis' movies and in particular "Tickle Me",
a movie he starred in in 1965. There is a lengthy live review of the Greaseball
in San Fancisco, with photos of Kim Lenz, Dave Stuckey and
Pee Wee Thomas, also on the bill were The Big 6, Ray Condo,
Stillmen, Hot Rod Lincoln, Johnny Dilks, Dale Watson,
The Collins Kids and more. The Seattle Rockabilly Ball is
featured with two very dynamic oversized photos picturing Ronnie Dawson
& Nick Curran and Sun-rocker Sonny Burgess. Janis Martin,
the female Elvis, is portrayed in a 6-page article - she truly was THE female
Rockabilly rebel with great songs! Last not least there is a review of a
show by Johnny Angel in New Orleans.
